Ravi, Bangalore & Sreedhar,
I was confused whether to apply or not. Now I have got some idea from both your messages, so I will go ahead and apply. Take it from me, though, I will not blame you both even if it flops, which is not the likely scenario. Thanks!

sjvn is good govt company Tata hydro was one such company in the tata group listed in BSE before 1980 now it is merged in tata power. POWER GENERATED from water is the cheapest source of energy hence sjvn will have listing gains
but retail investors if they apply there will be selling pressure for listing gains and the price will come down for some days

one has forgotten the fact that satluj ipo is 3 times smaller company than nhpc. its in similar league whereas nhpc has pan india presence satluj project is only in few states.

another fact is satluj comissioning of projects is happenining on 2013 and 2017 too long a period.
its book value is 16 rs only whereas united bank book value is 140 rs.

stock would not give any listing gains as do not find it that attractive and most of hni will like to sell it on listing day.

although this stock will start rising after 6 months -1 year time similarly to what adani power happened. rememebr adani power was avaialble below issue price for 2-4 months after listing.

dont expect any listing gains . it will stay in range of 23-26 only and i will not apply in this ipo and wait for 15d days. i will take a call after listing as i am confident to get this stock at same price if needed.

also remember we not know hat market condition will be after 15 days so better take call on listing or after listing

30-04-2010.

Dear Sreedhar:

I appreciate the painstaking study you have done on the SJVNL IPO. It will help guide investors, especially retail investors. I am also going to apply for some suitable quantity.

I endorse your view that it is by and large, safer to apply for IPOs or FPOs, issued by Govt.of India PSUs. I have myself expressed similar views in these columns a few days ago. I agree with you that investors, including me, have lost some money in issues like NHPC, in the short run. Greater are the chances of such risk materialising in IPOs issued by private companies also. Therefore, the breast beating done by some boarders in these columns that the Govt. is looting investors through its IPOs or FPOs, is not fair. In any case, even in the case of NHPC, the value loss between the issue price and the market price, has been between 15% to 20%.......nothing calamitous.

One last word. Do more analytical writing. That would benefit investors a lot. In my own way, I have also been serving the investor community, through my own writings.

Regards and best wishes,

N.Narasimhan

Thought of digging deep into SJVNL IPO.It has been a long time since I spent time on researching a public Issue.I have decided to go for SJVNL with all guns blazing(7-8 max applications) as I am now confident I will be getting more than expected 2K from 1 full applications.Following are the reasons for my decision:
1)Compared to NHPC It is equal or better in all parameters.Based on next FY P/BV(1.4) it is on par with NHPC.Its ROE of 12-13% is far superior to that of NHPC(a measly 8%) & Its PE 10-11 FY11 is far cheaper than NHPC PE 14% FY11.
2)FIIs & Institutions were expecting a price band of 27-30 & are pleasantly surprised with the price band & hence a good response is expected.
3)Of all the IPOs this is issued at an attractive price.
4)Compared to JP Infra which is expensive the risk inherent is very less.
5)Out of the total bids received a reasonable chunk is at lower price hence there is a chance the price may be discovered at lower than 26.
6)GMP is 1.So even if Issue is subscribed 3 times in retail(My prediction is 2-3 times with 3 being most probable) & It lists at 27.5 you will get 4 K easily & at the least 26 also 2K profit.
7)PSU Issuances are very safe(NHPC was an exception since it was issued at an astronomical price).Even NMDC which is a costly issue is maintaining easily near 300 & now UBI has surpassed DQE,Persistent ,ILFS etc in net returns.REC & UBI which were issued at reasonable valuations & for persons like me who have bought UBI below 70 they have given good returns.

So overall my friends I have decided to go for SJVNL as it is the best Issue which Carries the least risk.I am avoiding JP as doubts exist whether it is Infra or Real estate & anyhow it is expensive & I am not going for expensive Issues at any rate in this environment.

Note:Applying in physical format so that if Issue does not get subscribed as expected I can bail out.

One year target 38. Unlike NHPC, it has good margin of safety (similar to United Bank of India). Although P/BV is expensive compared to NHPC, on P/E terms, it is cheap.

Retail investors have added incentive of 5% discount to the finally determined price.

SUBSCRIBE.

The Company provides an annualized FY11 P/B of 1.26x and 1.29x at the lower and upper end of the price band, respectively, against the P/B of 1.5x of its closest peer, NHPC. The FY11 P/B at the lower and upper end of the price band is at 13% and 11% discount, respectively, over its peer (NHPC). Such a discount on P/B does not seem justified as the Company’s EBITDA margins for FY09 stood at 89% in comparison to NHPC’s EBITDA margin of 85%. Thus, i recommend everybody to Subscribe to the issue.

HARESH DO NOT GO BY THE RATING.
CHECK RATING OF EDWELESS CAPITAL,PRECISION PIPES ALL GIVEN RATING AND THEY ARE RULING AT HALF THE ISSUE PRICE.
STOCKS LIKE EDSERV HAS ALMOST GONE UP - TIMES WITH RATING OF .

THIS IS ALL BAKWAAS. FACT IS DO NOT INVEST IN HIS IPO AS ITS A LONG TIME PROJECT AND IT WONT GO ABOVE ISSUE PRICE FOR YEARS. HOWEVER IF YOU ARE READY TO HOLD FOR YEARS THEN ONLY INVEST THERE WONT BE ANY LISTING GAINS.

BETTER TO TAKE A CALL AFTER LISTING

I am going to put 3 full application for SJVNL to LOOT the govt at the price of 23. I will book my profits by looting the govt with 2-3 days of listing. All those who wants to LOOT the govt can apply in this issue.

I have allready looted govt on NMDC 240 shares at 304/share(alloted at 285).
Also I have looted NTPC 140 shares @210.50(alloted at 201).

So everybody LOOT sako to LOOT lo.
======================

When you sell shares alloted in an IPO you dont sell it back to the government. The buyer could be anyone - retail investor, MF, etc.

Please dont misguide people with wrong information. And congrats on earning hefty profits!

I don't understand, if this IPO has poor fundamentals then why CARE has assigned an IPO Grade 4 (Above average) rating? Do I assume ratings are also by corrupt people?
I believe if rating is good then riks is less and profit might be less but should not result in loss...

What do you say?

If anybody aware about the American markets. In the America[NEW YORK] the government produce electricity through water at HOWER DAM. Company named HPE [the government company] The IPO listed on last year and opens at athe premium of 200$ vs the priceof 300$. THE SAME THING IS COME IN INDIA AT THIS TIME.
174. karvy consultancy Ltd. |   Link |  Bookmark | April 30, 2010 10:05:28 AM
Surely opens at the premium of 14-15 rs. per share. Good IPO. And don't compare to NHPC because NHPC is based on only hydro power projects but this one is based on only and only water electricity and this way is very popular for producing the electricity. And this is the cheapest way for producing electricity.
