KKN & Vas NET,

I am totally agree with whatever you have written about futures trading. People have to extremely careful while trading with futures. In feb 2011, my profit was 86K and loss was 69K which makes the total profit of 17K. so I posted that I finished in green during the first futures trading month. In March, I increased the target to 50K. But my profit was only 40K. I am very about it because I did not utilize the all trading days as I was away for some days and sick for last few days and so on. Now I am looking forward for Q4 numbers which starts from 2nd week of April. So I dont do any trading until that time. I am just watching 1 scrip at present. That is cairn India. When the govt approved their stake sale, then I am expectng that it will give good return on that day.

Greed is the biggest enemy for future trading. I just fix 2000-3000 profit for my trading. If I acheive that, I will imediately exit. Few shares which I left un-intentionally due to my other comitments gave me good return. On seeing that also, I don't want to take chance and increase my profit level. So I still fix my profit to 2K-3K. It may be different for earning number days which I have to look in to it later. Until now I just traded tatamotors and tatasteel on their earning days last year. Lets see.

Thanks a lot for all you advices and tips including Sreedhars and Ravi bangalore. I will also reduce this kind of future trading in future.

Gane.

FOOL BROOKER,s - This return after taking the Idle amount when there was no IPO in 3-4 months average .If we take the amount utilised and profit/loss earned then the return will be 40% on annualised basis of the amount used , which no MF or any consultant can aasured so we should be happy by earning such return and stay away from speculation and wait for a new good IPO .

Dear Gane,
Do you remember one of my previous posts to you congratulating you for making good money in futures trading, at the same time asking you to be careful. As long as you earn money it will appear all rosy. It will make you think when there is such an easy way for making money why should you trade in cash. But it is like playing with fire. I have played in the past and have got my fingers burnt. So, unless you are going to be very much cautious dont play with fire.

I am just sharing my experience with Futures trade.

Futures Vs Cash Segment

1) Futures trade is a Zero sum game where only the brokerages gain.
2) Futures trade expires every month and roll over is required. Roll over at the same rate not guaranteed.
3) Futures trade is extra sensitive to news/developements.
4) Futures trade tests the endurance limits of a trader. Greed / Fear factors are explicitly seen while you trade in this futures segment.
5) Futures trade makes you feel that making money is so easy (when you profit) and makes you feel what big matters if money is lost (when you lose).
6) Futures trade is more of gambling than of knowledge / information.
7) Finally - Futures trade addicts you slowly.

Lets remember that the Pandavas lost their kingdom and their wife thinking everytime that they will win back what they had lost.

SANTONU@254: My dear friend who told you Shilpi manufactures Optic Fibre ? They are manufacturing RF Cables,Power & Control Cable,Auto Cable,PCM Cable plus connectors used by telecom companies. BUT NO OPTIC CABLES.
Any expansion of telecom services - Broadband or otherwise will mean more demand for their products. But imports from countries like China/Korea & other low-cost producers of such products pose a tough competition too, for this company.

shilpi cable may be the beneficiary of new broadband policy, so stock may do well on listingas it manufactures optic fibre

Tower - Have you taken the over subscription into account? IPOs which trade negative would have been subscribed lesser and the profit making IPOs would have been subscribed heavily.

On EVERY 100000 investment in IPO during the entire year we earn Rs. 28000 for the whole year 2010-2011(1.4.2010- 2011). A reasonably good return . ALso mutual fund other investment opportunity in STOCK MARKET do not give such return. So Keep investing. Though some loss on IPO is also included in this figure of during the year. THANKS 2010-2011

Dear Gane,

I tried to test my knowledge and strength with futures in Feb 2011. I did a huge turn over and despite knowing that the market is coming down, I could manage ony a zero loss and Rs.15,000/- profit to the brokerage.

Finally I ended the futures trade and concentrated on reduction of brokerage commission for futures as well as for the ipos. My advise would be that every traders/ipo applicant should have a basic knowledge of futures trade so that this can be used profitably for some FPOs.

Commodity trading is still riskier. I ended us in loss in Crude Oil trade due to erratic movement during the last one month. But I am using this for my business in a different way.
