Good subscription by QIB look like after rejection retailers will get firm allotment and on listing day we will see what happens 😉 looking for atleast 30% gain

I have studied the matter with some earlier IPOs and posted the findings earlier.
As far as I can recollect, for zomato it was net 55% on the lower side and for Paras def 74% on the higher side. Net of multiple lot , spread was found 82% to 91% , Others were on rejection on technical ground and non acceptance of upi and bid at lower price.
On the basis of this experience, I may assure that in this case the net bid can't exceed 65% and retail portion will fill eventually only 90% . In odd case it may extend upto 95% but never beyond 100%.

@shanm: yes if you apply with 10 lakh amount then you may be allotted much more shares than 14 lots upto 5 lakh amount too.....so don't follow Mravi blindly, his investments and risk may be much different than yours, take your own decision as per your own risk capacity.....but if you are sure about company as per your own thinking and if its your own decision to apply for this much amount, then its fine.

As per my experience whenever only FII are subscription and not much from Mutual Funds then the listing is bad.. CarTrade, Windlas, GLS are few example.

i think you will be alloted mostly 1 Lot only since app wise it is oversubscribed.

If you are lucky( due to tech rejections and UPI unacceptance) you might see some extra shares - may be low single digits

The true greatness & learning thing from your successes is Patience sir.

I had good quantity of Adani Wilmar Allotted (Funded HNI) but I sold them at 362.

Coming to Rainbow Hospital's IPO, it is our Favorite Hospital. My son, Lucky is born there & we regularly visit Rainbow Hospitals for consultations also. Though, they are a bit costly, you will not get that kind of treatment elsewhere for kids. Coming to fundamentals, though they are reasonably priced in terms of P/E but not in terms of EV/EBIDTA, dividend paying & most importantly it is our favorite hospital. So, applied 1 big HNI & 3 small HNI.

Thanks to new HNI rules by SEBI. I would save money for not paying Bajaj. ;-)

Just for your information, I had failed and quit in my first attempt in stock market. (from 1989, I was applying IPO's from my salary of 1000 Rs. 500 in hand, with filled application form, hours of long queue to pay part of 100 shares, praying for allotment letter by post. I was so passionate in markets & IPO, those days & invested all my savings. by then, I had lost almost everything during Harshad Mehta scam period. Again started fresh last 2 years or so, with financial freedom from my professional earnings).

I have some secondary market investments as well (with good gains already). Hence the summary doesn't give the proper view of IPO investment. Since you have asked, I am providing here below from one of my major account. (overall 34 % unrealized profit as of today)

Seems FII selling most of this type of stocks (local MF not buying much), including few heavy weights of HDFC. They will come back eventually. Zomato will perform sooner or later. I don't plan to exit. I will add more (quite big lots) once I sell few secondary market shares in next few days. I am very confident that it will go more than 100 within 6 months.

If you are having 'Ruchi Soya' or 'Adani Wilmer' shares, don't sell. (that's all I can say now... you can see my posts in those forums as well). This spurt is not just because of Indonesia or Ukraine, these 2 have real potentials, will be re-rated in near future and going to be darlings of MF and FII's after next few QTR results.

Please note that these are purely my opinions with out any analysis. (and I have vested interest in all)

For djml i just waited for my Target 150 ie 75Rs but it didn't reach because of this volatility.
All my holdings were bought right before Ukraine -russia war and those IPOs are just rovering around their issue price but i bought at little premium.
Let's wait for the results if it is good i will hold or else sell and if by any chance it comes to cost also i am ready to sell 😂now .
almost 2 months i was not able to apply full force.
Krishna& kn agri i wanted to apply 5lots but applied 1-2 lot only due to insufficient funds.

Would caution you to rethink about your SME holdings. For some SME companies you are holding chunks of them.
Since they have listed recently there is liquidity, but after a year or so when liquidity vanishes you will have to lower the prices to sell, this is from my personal very bad experience.

My apologies for this long message (I know that I have highjacked this Rainbow Hospital forum into some other territory)

I am overwhelmed by your questions in # 172.78

There may be few silent members, visitors and seasoned members who could have achieved better success than me. With the new feature, I took the honor. I hope few will come and inspire us with the successful IPO experiences.

To be honest, I am neither an analyst nor an expert of stock market. But I want to give some back ground before I answer your questions:

-      I don’t even read DRHP or RHP for all IPO’s (only when if I have some doubts). I will try to read forum members inputs, comments as much as I could and then go through Mr. Dilip Davda’s review
-      Its very easy decision for an IPO with high GMP / High subscriptions. But the chances of getting more quantities allotted are less
-      The real tricky ones are with less subscriptions, (low or no GMP) and negative atmosphere around the issue. Normally, I try to see the risk vs reward as the quantities going to be allocated will be very high.
I try to give good decision examples here:
-      Gland Pharma: I saw forum members comments and negative things around. I thought there was an opportunity as I felt the CPY has the potential to grow and at least a 10% gain in 3 months. Once it listed and with next few results, I am confident that I will keep this for long term. I don’t even monitor regularly.
-      Sona: Not that much negative, but I see there is a possibility for growth and reasonable (5-10%) in 6 months. I applied in both accounts, It beat my expectations. I keep it for long term.
-      Yes Bank: My second highest allocation in IPO after Birla AMC. So much negatives, I took risk (through 2 accounts) as bank wont be closed down (it gave so much opportunity to exit at good price). But somehow I did not so far.
-      AWL / Ruchi: So much negative things especially in Ruchi, not much in Adani. (but I had a feeling during IPO closing day, I should have applied little more…but no regrets). I know these companies are growth companies, not even following the price on daily basis.
-      Veranda: I saw promotors are genuine. But so many negative comments due to recent tech companies sell off (some new members were continuously posting good things about company…which made even some people not to apply thinking CPY is doing this. But I thought otherwise from the recent lesson leant from Madhavbaug IPO). Applied as the business is not just online learning, It has so many coaching for many exam preparations related to jobs, which will grow). I thought if the business clicks it will be good. However, I had a fresh wounds from AGS, Policy bazar, Car trade…etc. Eventually, I took risk in applying (knowing that I could possible to lose 25%). On listing day, so much big selling including Nomura. But I did not want to sell. With the 'TIME' acquisition news, it has gone up almost double.

There were also few not so good decisions (with big bets):
-      Birla AMC
-      AGS
-      Policy Bazar
-      Windlas
-      Car trade…etc.

SME IPO’s:
I would have never ever applied SME’s if I did not join in Chittorgarh forum. I started with small lots (BEW, NRL, Prevest, BMetrics…few others gave confidence), then I really started betting high. (BEW went upto 1100 and come to 600. I don’t mind, I see their business is good, I will just hold. Same as NRL, I added more when there was an opportunity)

I suppose to apply KN Agri (my favorite LM ‘Hems’), I changed my mind to apply Swaraj with a high bet (I saw good company and textile stocks doing well) as I will not get any in KN with even 2C investment. Swaraj was not doing well for long time, in 2-3 days it gone up and 25% gain in spite of recent fall.

All SME high bets gave good returns so far (I see the risk reward ratio, when I am convinced and go-ahead with my decision)
few good decisions (as of now)
-      Shigan,
-      Abcots,
-      JSLL,
-      Eighty…etc

Not so good decision (so far):
-      Precision

I am very much mindful of the SME shares can make huge loss during any sell off. But I have great companies in my overall folio to dampen the damages.

Now I try to answer your questions (many investments I go with the flow or with my gut feeling with out fulfilling any of the criteria below). I am sure that the following may not be applicable to 99% of the investors as I don’t follow any systematic approach or fund allocation or risk management:

1.      The qualities you look for
2.      The parameters you use
o      Growth
o      Promotors (or LM in case of SME)
o      Sector

3.      Fund allocation
o      In MF (20%)
o In cash (20%)
o      Remaining in equities (IPO, Secondary Market)

4.      The exit criteria
o      I don’t have any criteria, when I feel the CPY not good enough or any other opportunity

5.      Market worries (like Covid, War, Recession)
o      I don’t bother much (as things will become normal sooner or later)
o      Covid time - I cancelled my deposits and Lum Sump purchase of MF
o      I added more in secondary market (quality stocks)

6.      Risk management (in case higher allocation in equity) etc.
o      I have financial freedom (due to my job), hence higher allocation
o      I am very optimistic, the market will eventually come back (even my folio is all in red -30%, I did not get nervous, I added slowly on raising market (I did ‘catching falling knife’ many times…I learn from my mistake, trying to avoid next those)

I know very well that these are not classic investment approach for anyone. My advise could be only to the younger generation that they shall allocate their majority of asset allocation into shares through IPO and build up portfolio for long term.

Dear Investers, learn from MRavi's experience, motivate yourself from his initial struggle and final success, take inspiration from his style and passion in market, copy his humble and helping attitude...... .But do not blindly copy his risk taking approarch with all your money. He has already made big cases of cash :) and hence can offered the luxury of such risks. There is nothing called easy money. I am sure even MRavi would agree as he also has mentioned this in most of his messages...
This thread has been the best use of free time in-between IPOs and weekend...

One must appreciate your wherewithal to reveal your holding details to inspire, guide amateurs on importance of holding an investment long term and it's intrinsic benefits. On this board often long term gets shortened to 3 years with most. Many don't fathom the difference between making profits vis-à-vis creating wealth. You are actually creating wealth. Wealth building requires,

1. Patience to hold long periods 10 to 20 years
2. Conviction in chosen scrips
3. Belief that investment in a stock is like buying part of that business one understands and believes in.

From your various posts, you seem to have realized the importance of the above over decades experience. Keep guiding and wish you many more wealth creation success stories.

I been part of similar journey. Used to apply in IPOs early 80 on paper with a wait period of 3 months to know allotment status by India Post....LOL

yes today swaraj came back strong, and maruti did well, finally well above my buy price but coolcaps hit lower circuit after initial upmove. Still coolcaps is my just second sme after shigan to have 100% returns....up down keep happening anyways but my strong conviction in kn agri , coolcaps, swaraj proved good bet finally after some initial hiccups. i bought one more lot for swaraj at 57 when upmove started in that so holding 2 lots of swaraj.

@kundan: i am still holding my kn agri 1 lot....

As @lokes indicated in this thread comment # 103 by @avenue, I reiterate that my risk taking abilities and stay invested for longer time on riskier stocks may not be suitable or good examples for every one (kindly read comment # 98).

Disclosure: I have good investments done during covid times in MF (which have appreciated over 60% - 70% returns) and investments in high quality stocks in secondary markets. As @Avenue said, I can afford to go for high bets on high risk IPO's.

Kindly invest within your risk profile, financial goals and seek experts help where needed.

I want to emphasize that 'stay invested for long term' is always not a good idea for all stocks. And another common mistake I did many times in the past was averaging down, when falling. I give some of my IPO examples, where I did mistakes (not want to show here from secondary market, which may not be relevant here).

IRFC - I booked loss long time ago
GLS - latest results seems fair (I will continue to hold for one more qtr or Nifty to recover and see if Pharma stocks catch up, then will exit)
SBI card - I did not apply (in spite of great results, price not raised. I don follow much on this stock any way)

You may review depending on cash requirements and plan for exit

Dear Members (those new to IPO/Stock Market),
There are few other lessons learnt (from Pharma stocks), I would like to share here.

- Booking Profit or Loss at right time:
This is very difficult one for the biggest investors of stock market also. I did not do this (or not well) and hence keeping so many stocks which did not perform well consistently, made loss in those.

- Sectorial Play:
Not all stocks will perform all the times. Identifying theme of the market and allocating them well is important. I bought Pharma stocks when they were doing exceptionally well during covid time (my pharma were all in healthy green), but then those under performed (by either poor results or market lost interest), made huge loss. (I made mistake not booking profit on average companies)

- Identifying Quality stocks and building the folio:
Pundits/Analysts always say buy Quality stocks (or leaders). You can easily see their performance (Divis, Laurus, Sun, Ajantha, Gland) in spite not favorable market conditions now for Pharma. So initially focus on Quality stocks then go for high beta stocks for those wanted to take limited risk (only if you see an opportunity), not do the mistakes of mine.

Hope some take away is there for the new comers at least.

I would like to conclude this long thread with the positive learnings of mine (with the latest Infra and Power theme of the market. Those also have given the courage to bet high in IPO's like... JSLL, Eighty, Veranda, Shigan...etc)

- always accommodative to the market conditions (don't be upset when market falls or overjoy when market up)
- accept your mistakes and learn from them
- last but not the least, always ready to learn (especially from this great Chittorgarh forum), share and enjoy your success
