This kind of issue , if it begins to quote below issue price , it is hard to come out. Takes ages to get back the issue price. If it is SBI or any other quality IPO even if priced higher, patience pays. Those who want to apply must not apply with a feeling they are going to be left out of profit making opportunity. And those who don''t , must not repent it if it quotes higher on opening day. I am not applying as I am not comfortable with the corporate governance. I am likely to apply for EIL after the price declaration in the evening being attractive. We all here give our view point and can take decision to ourselves can''t decide for others. Investment risk is always decided by the investor.
I have not looked deeply into SBI but can give a general reply to ur question.. SBI''s prices have tanked due to: (1) its high NPA position which is a genuine business issue. (2) weak market sentiment caused by external factors (China''s equity rout for example). There may be other reasons that I may not be aware of.
Point (1) is a fundamental weakness. We can''t take it lightly & just think that it will go away in some time. SBI is bracing itself against this problem by strengthening its capital by forging LT funding arrangements with LIC, planning rights issue etc. No one knows how long will it take for the bank books to become healthy again.
Point (2), however, supports your argument. It''s not directly & fundamentally linked to SBI & therefore is an opportunity.
Point (1) makes SBI expensive & (2) makes it cheap. Do the math & invest.

If the IPO is subscribed for less than 90% of the issuance ... then it is automatically cancelled ... and all investors are refunded the application money
Correcting...as per SEBI rules...if 90% of the primary component of the issue (not the OFS only the primary) has been raised then the issue can be declared a success...
Only 6% by 12pm Day 2. I guess this is the lowest that we might have seen lately...

Hey, what has Chinese market closure got to do with PCL listing? ! Chinese market is closed every year for 5 days during spring festival. PCL will find its own level. If market tanks tomorrow, it is opportunity to buy other counters.
Banking sector available in attractive price with good dividend yield why to invest our money in expensive price band

the ASBA mechanism has been facing some difficulties at the rural bankers end ... that is why the Retail response has not been upto the mark yesterday ... but will get sorted out today/tomorrow
PCL: I have every intention to ''buy'' not necessarily ''apply''. Just waiting for the updated subscription figures tomorrow. And yes, even if it lists at discount, I can always do some cost averaging given my long position (2-3 years). In fact, it would be great if I can buy below 160.
I like TL more for its low risk profile, strong management &, more credible growth story. If only its valuation was not so spooky....
