well for Retail, that was the case and SEBI ruled out that scenario making the retail allotment more democratic in nature rather than give it to people who apply the most. I think this is a better way out.

In West, there is no RII, FII, Retail bifurcation and no one except VC/PE/Hedge funds get much shares. We might not want to end up that way too.

What we have is a balance of things and it is better. IPOs are way too risky and SEBI thinks Retail should not be allowed to participate as well.

Arun, if we go that way, 99% of people in India won't get an allotment. If applying more lots makes you preferable, then there are people & organizations in India and abroad who can bid for "entire" IPO shares in a profitable company such as polycab. There is always someone with more money than others. Even IPO company (e.g. Ploycab) wouldn't want someone monopolizing their IPO. If they would have wanted such a thing then they would have offered partnership directly to some big Corporate in turn of Money. But then these Big Corporates would interfere in their day-to-day business. Hence they give allotment to as many small investors as possible. Investors who only worry about profit, don't ask questions and don't attend general meetings. There is nothing democratic, only strategic.

You can apply in pre ipo placement. You may get shares of worth of crores at discounted price. Only condition, you must be atleast crore in your kitty.
