You may invest in good mutual fund instead of direct stock investment + Open Sukanya samridhi account (if she is below 10 years). Divide money as per your risk taking capacity (50% in MF, 50% in SSY).

Chintan Sukanya Samridhi Scheme is also a good option. I forgot about that. Also, if u do not want to go in for DHFL RD then u can go for RD of any nationalised bank. Also, I fail to understand how someone can term a RD as risky? Do not invest in ULIPs or mutual funds. They r subject to market risks. Here u r looking for a steady risk free schemes so go for the two suggested. Also, u can look for post office deposits which will give u 8.4% returns per year.

When u invest, u have to create milestones. Milestones have to be short term, med term n long term. For short term u would need immediate cash so u should have a minimum of 3/4 months deposits in ur savings account. Med n long term investments have to be thought of depending upon ur capacity n requirements n ur goals.

Share market, MFs n ULIPs are high risk investments. So one should only invest in them after their short term goals r satisfied n cater for any immergency that may arrive in short term. Iu should therefore invest only if they have surplus money to play around with. If u font then u risk defaulting on ur life goals n debt. So one needs to be smart. Do not anyone get influenced by illogical n stupid fancy ideas about share market, ULIPs n MFs. If they were so good then everyone would have been tatas n birlas.

I invest in SSY and MF for my daughter... My plan is to continue investing in SSY till her age of 14 (investment is allowed till age of 14 as i can recall). From MF I would like to quit, once 15% and above return is available and put that money in FD / PPF / GOLD or any other safe place..

Adani Ports, Britannia, Cosmo films, DHFL, Ramkrishna Forgings, SKS Microfinance, MCX, Eicher Motors, Welspun India, Heritage foods, Indo count, Satin Credit Care, Ashok Leyland & Skipper Ltd.

Research on these stocks and take a decision.

My suggestion would be : Sun Pharma, ONGC, Tata Motors, SBI, Ujjivan, Tech Mahindra, MCX, VRL Logistics.
