You are working in this company. You should better aware of its valuation.
NHPC has immense business potential as it involves not only in thermal but also in nuclear power. NHPC is only in hydro-power & depends on water. Except some areas in Himalayas, there is no potential. Country faces drought every year without rain for agriculture itself. Considering this, where is water for power generation?
Every company has value. If you buy even Infosys / Reliance at high valuation / price, you will not gain.
Just because if company potential is good investors cannot make money. Otherwise investors need not put money in fixed deposit. In arriving at valuation, earnings are factored-in. Your company's immense business potential also considered. As issue size is large, chance of even Operators jacking price is also remote.
NHPC IPO was initially planned to issue @ Rs.16. However, looking at buoyancy of market & risk appetite (greed) of investors, merchant bankers advised Government to issue at higher PE multiple.
In addition, its issue size is large. Hence, Friends Circle / Operators need large capital to jack-up price (Operators prefer small issue size to drive-up price).
Investors should carefully pick stocks for IPO investment. There is no point in applying for IPO if promoters don't leave any value on table. Investors can buy in secondary market without going through hassles of IPO procedures.
NHPC is good stock though a little high priced for current market. But very good, if kept for atleast 3-4 months. Around dec, this stock wil definitely zoom to around 45-51 and that will be the right time to earn profit.
