1. 1 retail application for 4 lot from single demat or
2. 2 retail applications for 2 lot each?

Thanks @jay here , But I remember in LIC, got diffrent number of shares for both accounts on applying diffrent number of lots. In lottery, do everyone selected gets only one lot each?

LIC was undersubscribed.
Netweb is already oversubscribed. So in this case either you will get 1 or nothing, doesn't matter if you apply 1 lot, 2 lots or 13 lots.

We are having two demat accounts, mine and my wife. One is in NSDL and the other is in CSDL. Can I apply , say for example in NETWEB for both the applications from SBI ( Joint account me and wife). Both the accounts are obviously having different PAN.

Nops, you can apply only from account where primary account holder name matches Demat account holder name. Other will be rejected.

My problem with HDFC is fixed I missed on many IPOs but finally I could apply in netweb technologies

This is the first time I want to apply in sHNI category but I am not getting "change category" option in HDFC. How can I change this?
Also if I place application worth for more than 2 lakh in retail, will it be considered in HNI automatically?

There is no such option. Bids above 2 lac are automatically considered as HNI bids

yes it will move to SHNI once you input quantity and price. do remember to untick cut off price and add manually the amount.

Should i apply multiple lots in retail or only one lot? Chances of allotment is better if i apply multiple lots in retail or not?

applying multiple lot from same id will be of no use. as the IPO will oversubsribe. It is better to apply to multiple retail appplications.
