Working style of popular doctors are different. Multispecialty Hospitals runs on Doctors name. Popular doctors mainly works on percentage based (35% to 40% of total bill). Patients prefer popular doctor name for surgeries like heart, knee replacement etc.. Popular doctor gets 1.2 lakh for hearth surgery in one hospital and only 20,000 in NH. Popular doctors always prefer other hospital compared to NH.

Let''s talk about low cost model of NH. Since last 6 years company shows excellent growth in income (25% to 30%) YtoY., but fails to generate profit. Low cost model doesn''t mean to any investor unless it generates profit.

Eagleye,
Let''s believe NH is investing in new hospitals. Forget about returns from new hospital. Hospitals are tangible assets. Invested money reflects in total assets. Total assets value is used to calculate Book Value.
Book value = total assets - intangible assets - liabilities
Book Value of NH is very low. Where money is going? This means liabilities is very high. How many more years needed to complete these liabilities is not known.

It looks like you are very anxious to learn market fundamentals. You will be excellent analyst one day. Ask as many questions as you have. This forum and I try to give best answers of your questions.

I have been trying to make an unbiased and objective decision of whether “to apply or not” in this IPO

In that process I looked at FORTIS HEALTHCARE LTD.

My basic findings from the BSE website are that:

Observation No.1
Yesterday’s Closing Price Rs.175.55 (on 15/12/2015)
52 Week Low Rs.100.50 (on 16/12/2014)

Observation No.2
This Company has been reporting losses for past few years:

EPS reported -0.92 (loss) (for 6 months ended Sep-15)
EPS reported -0.79 (loss) (for FY 14-15)

Observation No.3
Share Holding Pattern as on 30th September 2015:
Promoter 71.32% FII +DII      11.05% General Public 17.63%
Observation: General Public is holding more than Institutions

That leads me to ask:

Question 1
What is the justification for Fortis to enjoy a Market Cap valuation of Rs.8,175Crs.?

Question 2
On which parameter is Narayana Hrudayalaya worse off than this Company?

I am so confused, therefore,
I seek help from the wise men who have been regularly contributing on the discussion board for this IPO:

M Gupta
Septa
Rajeev Kumar Singh
vaibhav Hisaria
Uchit Patel
Dilip Davda

IPO was originally plan for 10% stake with a clafor detail discount. After seeing high sentiments in primary market, retail discount has been done away with as retailers are dying to apply in every IPO without having a look at the valuations. Issue size has also been increased from 10 to 12 percentage of capital.
Book Value less than 40 per share expected EPS less than Rs. 1. Networth of entire Company less than 800 cr and the ambition is to list at a market cap of atleast 5100 crore ( if it manages to list at par or premium).
Beware investors or else

THIS WILL LOOOOOOOT U
THIS WILL KOOOOOOOT U

Mr Gupta, I am a big fan and follower of you. You comments are direct leaving no scope for error in interpretation whereas other experts would say "Company is good but valuation is high". this type of diplomatic comment has no meaning. Secondly you are bold enough to speak direct "avoid" whereas grey market and public mood is exactly opposite you. Keep it up sir and dont worry about 2-3 members of this forum. most of us know the value of your advice. Rupee saved is as good as rupee earned.

I still remember M Gupta''s advice at the time of Monte carlo that came at the same time last year...but took my chances applying to the same and suffered a 215 loss at the issue price of 645...do not apply to Loot koot ipo''s )

Low cost business model doesn''t mean low profit. Get this difference in mind clearly. All I am saying listing premium may not be there and it''s not worth applying for listing gains. For investment several ideas are there in secondary market.

One more thing to be remembered. The Company intentionally kept retail application at Rs. 15000 to get maximum out of us. I agree to some extent with NC that it may list at issue price or say 5-10 percent discount due to influence of anchor investors. But sir, in long run any investor would ask returns and this Hospital Company does not seem to be generating good bottomline for the next 5 years.
86. Nasirul Choudhury |   Link |  Bookmark | December 16, 2015 12:37:23 AM (400+ Posts)
Those who are thinking it will list at 100 might be proved wrong becau-se of price anchoring behavioral bias. Once it is priced in around 245-250 that will remain as benchmark & may trade around that price for a sometime.
86.1. pooja.money |   Link |  Bookmark | December 16, 2015 12:41:37 AM
So better buy after listing if it trades around that only. Why in hurry?
86.2. Nasirul Choudhury |   Link |  Bookmark | December 16, 2015 12:51:21 AM (400+ Posts)
I am in hurry. Nope. I am just saying a lot of things are managed and anchoring helps institution as well to jump in. I won''t buy without seeing some performance consistency. I am happy with my Kovai investment.

See the below comment.

42. Nasirul Choudhury Dec 13, 2015 12:19:17 AM IST

This is a fantastic hospital chain, Dr Devi Shetty is the brand, 5K+ operational beds & niche concept compared to other focusing on world class yet affordable healthcare. I had face to face encounter with Dr Devi Shetty & also through video conference. Undoubtedly a gift in the Indian healthcare segment along with Asian Institute of Gastroenterology or sister concerns of AIG (Hyderabad).

However even though top-line has been fantastic with a steady growth but bottom-line hasn''''t been consistent with wafer thing margins. A little increase in billings, coupled with a little margin expansion can do wonder for NH in medium term. Even changing the mix of general to premium beds to a higher ratio of premium beds can work towards margin improvement. But we are here to make money & safeguard our investment and the asking price is steep with sometimes declaring loss as well.

Also, this is managed by Karvy, which never allotted a single lot to me in case of oversubscription in many IPO''''s. I doubt the integrity of Karvy a lot personally.

All in all I will give it a miss but I hope it goes through & we see listing. It could be possible that so far they focus-ed on expanding but once public needs to focus on profit as well & we might have fantastic, sustainable, defensive (to economic cycles) company.

For now I am happy with Kovai which is another fantastic company and I have a small holding in that company with proven track record.

I asked my grey market broker... he told that with form Rs. 650 without form Rs. 600 per application of Rs. 15000. Limited buying. So I am avoiding. For 600, I will not sell in grey rather I prefer to give a miss to Narayan.

Are baap re... ek ek khatiya (bed) ka valuation 1 crore rupaiyaa... main to bolta hoon ki apun log mil kar 2-2 khatiya (bed) aur de dete hai is Company ko rent par...

Aur ye SEBI kya kar rahi hai... no retail discount.. 600-700 crore rupaiya kono khel nahi hai... itana paisa main to 20 naya hospital ban jawega...

SEBI ko retail investor se buy-back ka rule jaroor dalna chaiye.. yeh share total 100 rupaiyaa ka maal hai... listing par sabki batti gul ho jaayegi tab... tab kai logon ko NH main khatiya pakadani padegi...
tauba tauba .. loot macha rakhi hai.

IMO the valuation of 5100 cr was arrived at looking at total number of if you lookout apollo fortis it MC is is approx 1 Cr per bed so approx 5000 bed for NH so valuation is 5000 cr approx however it is fine if it is business model is same as apollo or fortis. however NH model is low cost low margin business model so valuation also should be same.

what is mean by this if there business model is low cost low margin model then valuation should also be low. If the model was low cost high margin then valuation could be better the apollo becathere model is high cost and high margin business model.

From the red herring we know this is a very very well run hospital model cost per bed is as low as 17 lakhs however fortis and apollo cost per bed average is apprix 1 cr. So if NH wants 1cr valuation for it per bed then margin should also grow from 1.7% to around 10% (Same as apollo ).

SO if if wants to run the hospital as a social service business then they should also value it MC in the same way which according to my calculation is approx 1000 Cr and not 5000 Cr

I admire Mr Devi Shetty and his social cabut this IPO i am going to give it a miss

Very good read eagleye if NH which improve its margin like Apollo and fortis NH could give bumper return however till this margin improve it is a very risk bet better stay in sideline and take action after listing.
hypothetical if NH improve it margin the benefit will be many fold since cost structure in case of NH is 1/5 of Apollo so 100 bases increase in margin is actual 500 bases improvement in margin on per bed....

Actually I think the reason the market is not active on NH... is that the issue is closing on 21st December

Whereas,
Alkem RHP says – Refund by 22nd December
Dr. Lal RHP says – Refund by 23rd December

If these refunds happen by 20th (which is possible) ... only after that suddenly the activity will start in NH.
