offers at an agreed rate of interest for a specified number of days. The interest rate is usually around 12-17 % per annum and issuance period 9-10 days.

"We might see selling pressure above Rs 200 as the stock will be trading at around implied book value of 2.8 times at that price," said Santosh Singh, analyst, Espirito Santo Securities. Muthoot's only listed peer, Manappuram General Finance, closed at Rs 133 on Thursday on Bombay Stock Exchange, up 1% from previous close. The stock has gained nearly 5% in the past one week.

Muthoot Finance's Rs 900-crore initial public offer, the largest this year, was subscribed 25 times. Total bids stood at around $5 billion from investors such as Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Baring India Private Equity, domestic banks, and mutual funds. Around 63 mutual funds, 15 financial institutions and banks, six insurance companies, 66 foreign funds, and 189 corporate bodies own the stock along with about 200,000 retail investors.

UMBAI: High net worth individuals (HNIs) may be under pressure to sell Muthoot Finance shares as it lists on the exchanges on Friday. HNIs who borrowed money and bid heavily for the initial public offering (IPO) of the non-banking finance company ( NBFC )), which attracted Goldman Sachs and Citigroup as investors, may find it difficult to break even on listing. The shares are estimated to list at 18% premium on the upper end of the issue price. Grey market estimates show the shares will list at a premium of Rs 30 over the upper end of the price band of Rs 160-175.

A listing of Rs 205-207 will not yield profits for the HNIs who garnered finances at an average of over 12% interest rate. "Even 17-18 % premium may not break even HNIs' cost of funding as the category saw a huge subscription of 61 times. HNIs that have borrowed at 12% for 10 days, will achieve break-even only if the stock lists at a premium of over Rs 30," said Ahmedabad-based grey market broker Dhaval Shah. An HNI who spent Rs 10 crore on the Muthoot public issue will get about 9,368 shares.

If he borrowed at 12% rate for 10 days, he will pay an interest of about . 35 per share. Thus, he will break even on his investment if the share lists at Rs 210. The cost per share will increase if the investor has borrowed at a higher interest rate. "Most of the funding has happened at 12.0-12 .5% for about 9-10 days. We are expecting a decent listing that will help in achieving the breakeven cost of clients.

While we may see some selling pressure on the listing day as is the case always, those investors who are not breaking even may also hold on to the shares. The company is fundamentally sound and investors will benefit in the long run," said Sandeep Adukia, president, capital markets finance, Religare Finance. Non-banking finance companies fund HNIs for public

Friends,
Present grey market premium is 18-20 so it will list around 195.Above 195 it should go till 215-225 .I always short any stock if it lists below greymarket price whatever be its pedigree as there will be tremendous selling pressure.Tomorrow also I will follow the same strategy,I will sell my shares if it lists below 193.I will take a relook at it if the second case happens at a lower price & hold on to it with a stop loss of 164.

I have followed each & every statement I have posted.Sold at 190 including shorting.Bought at 175 both the shorts & my shares.Stop loss is 164 for me.Manapuram was spot on for me.Good profit in that also.Lot of friends in Chittorgarh have followed these statements & made profit in this scenario also.

rbi's policy for nbfc was big dampner for all nbfc stock.......

lending to nbfc by banks was earlier catagorised as priority sector lending @ lower prices but rbi has withdrawan that status as prority sector status now loan will be given to them at a bit higher prices......

its result for fy'11 will be very good and push the stockclosure to 200

Udayan Mukherjee comments

"It is not terribly expensive. It came at a price to book at around 2.25-2.3 and that is the Manappuram valuation as well. So, I think it is conceivable, given the return ratio that Muthoot works at and the kind of growth that they are seeing for the last couple of years, very high growth stock. I know there are some concerns out here. But I think 2.5 kind of price to book is not very difficult to defend for this kind of a high growth gold loan company which has only two listed companies in the space.

Even at a 2.5 kind of price to book, would take the price to beyond Rs 200. The rest depends on how good the market is feeling etc. It also has to be benchmarked against a lot of the banking stocks; blue chip banking stocks which have corrected to that below 2.5 kind of price to book. So, I think you need to keep an eye on that as well that valuations on probably some of the more pedigree companies have come down to even more attractive levels than Muthoot. So, Rs 200 plus yes, but anything substantially beyond that, I think probably see better value in the private banking space."
