It will be on lottery which is very difficult in HNI. You should have applied in retail where there were better chances of allotment as 35% reserved for retail. For next IPO apply multiple retail single lot applications to increase your chance of allotment.

Very Very Less Chance due to less number of shares applied as it will be based on Lottery. Best of Luck ????

Read following detail to understand.

BoA is not that simple. There is one more factor that needs to be considered i.e. number shares allocated for each category in addition to ratio of allotment. Another thing that has to be considered is how shares are distributed in different categories - for retail distribution is equal based on number of applications for all categories while in HNI it is proportionate.

Basically all applications are put together based on number of lots applied for. So all those who applied for 1 lot go together in category 1, those who applied for 2 lots go together in category 2 etc.

Going by the e.g. of Chemcon

Category 1(Retail bids 1 lot - 44 shares)
No of applications - 1769347
Total No of shares applied - 77851268
Ratio of allotment (2:53 - 1:26.5)
Total No of Shares for category - 2938936 (66794 lots)
Ratio of Total No of Shares to No of applications - 1.66

Category 2(Retail bids 2 lots - 88 shares)
No of applications - 96993
Total No of shares applied - 8535384
Ratio of allotment (2:53 - 1:26.5)
Total No of Shares for category - 161084 (3661 lots)
Ratio of Total No of Shares to No of applications - 1.66

Category 14(HNI bids 14 lots - 616 shares)

Now in this if you see category 17 and 18 allotment ratios were 1:22 and 1:25 which is prima facie better then retail allotment ratio 1:26.5 which would make us believe that chances of allotment in this is better. Now check how many lots are available in these categories - only 3 for 17 and 2 for 18. Compare this number of lots available for retail. You will realize what I mean. In category 17 even though ratio is better then retail due on 3 lots being available you get only 3 opportunities to get selected. Similarly in Category 18 you get only 2 opportunities to get selected. While in retail Category 1 there are 66794 so you get 66794 opportunities to selected. Now which one do you think has more chance of allotment of 1 lot. Add to this if instead of applying 14 lots in HNI if you apply 14 different applications you are multiplying your chance of allotment.

There is one more thing in HNI - Chemcon was subscribed 445.47 times so all those who applied for 446 lots have confirm allotment. Below 445 lots if there are categories which have very less applications then there is very high possibility none of them get any allotment as no shares get allocated to that category during distribution.

Based on this detail research I have been advising retail to apply 1 lot multiple applications. I am doing the same and enjoying allotments and profits:).

I think allotment is done to those who hold shares for longer duration in their Demat (1 Year). Rest is all a guess my personal experience. Before I use to apply and if get allotment use to sell it within 1 to 2 weeks my shares, later stop getting allotments for many IPOs. Now since last 1 year not selling my allotments and guess what getting lucky with allotments in retail category always applying only for 1 lot.

I always sell on listing day in pre-open still I have been getting allotment.

To get one lot 50 shares allotment in HNI category you should have applied for 31050 shares ( 621 lots X 50 ) costing about 90 lakhs approx. As you have applied for 5000 shares your chance is 1 : 6 approx.

@Thiagrajan his chance is not 1/6 which is a misconception retail have about HNI allotment. Read my reply above where I have explained in detail how HNI allotment happens and why it is difficult to get allotment based on lottery in HNI.

@OldFox "Total number of Shares for (that) category means number of shares allocated to that category from total number of shares available.

1st all the applications are segregated based on number of lots applied. So all those who applied for 1 lot go in category 1, those who apply for 2 lots go in category 2 so on and so forth.

Now each category is allocated shares from total number of shares available overall. (In retail it is equally distributed based on number of applications while in HNI it is proportionate)

1) Say for eg 1lac shares are available for retail

2) there are 2000 applications for 1 lot (category 1) and 1000 applications for 2 lots (category 2),

3) Based on other category applications distribution is made so
Category 1 may get 10000 shares and category 2 may get 5000 shares - These become total number of shares available for these categories (10000 for Cat 1 and 5000 for Cat 2)

4) Now all Cat 1 applications ( who applied for 1 lot) will be given shares out of 10000 only. Similarly Cat 2 applications ( who applied for 2 lots) will be given shares out of 5000 only.

@ Johny, IPO Mentor :: Thanks so much, once again. I was under the impression that all retailers from 1st lot to 13th or 14th lot (as the case may be) were treated at par for allotment.
Now this leads to another question: Does this mean that if one applies for the top (uppermost) lot in retail, s/he stands better chance of allotment??
And as I said earlier, you have been so generous in imparting this invaluable knowledge.

No, OldFox.. all Retail category applications are treated as application for a single lot (first). What I mean by "first" is, greater than 1 lot allotment is possible only when after distributing 1 lot to each Retail applicant, some Retail shares are still left unallotted. In simpler words, this can happen only when Retail segment is undersubscribed.

@OldFox - Sorry for delayed response. As such there is not much difference in retail on how many lots one applies as allotment ratio is same for every one but as I have explained in my earlier response with 1 lot application you give yourself more opportunities to get selected. Some maths experts may object with permutation and combination formula but I prefer applying multiple 1 lot applications. This approach has helped me in getting allotments since quite some time. I don't want promotion and it really does not matter to me. I will be very happy if some of my brethren retailers benefit from my suggestions.

Generally QIB do not sell their shares on first day. So many weak hands sold their shares on first day to strong hands. Moreover appetite was too high, 198 times IPO subscription.

@IpoNewbie ... Its not shown all category in BoA. They have given only some representative category to give an idea about various levels. If you check sum of any columns like - No of Applications, % of Total, Total Equity Shares applied, or Total Equity Shares allotted.... it will not match what shown at bottom.
