Allotment or Non-Allotment, fate of IPO Application is being known within 2 days whereas it used to take minimum 2 MONTHS in 1980s and 1990s where Applications are submitted in physical form, duly filled in and signed in Bank Counters. At that time listing used to take upto 3 months. Only BSE and some Regional Exchanges are there; NSE not born. Shares allotted used to come by way of SHARE CERTIFICATE in REGISTERED POST. Registrars KFIN, LINKINTIME, CAMEO and MAS Services are continuing since then. Happy to be an Investor in IPOs. Greatest advancement of being able to utilise the IPO money within hours of applyingwhich was not dreamt of.
@VNrao.. correctly said Sir.. in the early 1990 .. ipo proceding was completed in 2 to 3 months..We received physical share certificates..& refund through Registered post..
Brings back old memories. I also used to invest in IPOs in the 1980s. My first allotment was Doom Dooma Tea in 1978 or so, in my mother's name. Then I think they were called Public issues. Forms used to be avlble outside banks. Was also a stock exchange member of Jaipur and was an underwriter as well. At that time there was an offic eof controller of capital issues. All issues were at Par ( 10 rs each). For issuing at premium, CCI reluctantly gave approval and huge bribe was thought to be given. Remember Bindal Agro came at 50 RS and it was exclaimed as to why such a high premium. CCI was abolished during free mkt regime ushered onwards of 1992 by Manmohan as FM and SeBI came about. Markets have hugely progressed since then.
Got very high quality shares almost at par in those days very easily such as 3M, Carrier Aircon,Grindwell, Phillips.Kotak Mah. Fin,Hero Honda.Tvs Suzuki , Eicher Motor etc.etc. Even if someone had invested Rs. 10k in Western India Products in 1980 it would have become 1900 cr. today.(renamed Wipro).
