​@SilentIPOApplicant There is no fixed formula or rule so to say. You have to conduct your own research and come up with your own strategy. To start with, make a watchlist from different sectors and observe keenly. It is equally important to add at right price. Opportunities keep coming. Many investors follow SIP route to build such a portfolio where quantum can be adjusted based on price movements.

I have captured a list of stocks and been observing them for the last 30-45 days. But on what basis should I purchase a stock? For example, should I consider promotional holding, P/E ratio, or comparison of profit on a year-over-year basis?

Without these details, how can anyone make an informed investment in a particular stock? I've noticed that many people and firms provide target prices for the short and medium term. So, are they basing these target prices on chart analysis only?

​@SilentIPOApplicant When you apply in IPO and get allotment, are you exiting or keeping few for future? What criteria you have in mind while deciding to hold these? I am sure, some keywords like happening sector, profitability, brand value, growth prospects, valuations, peer comparison etc. you must be having in mind. Similar kind of approach may be applied while transacting in secondary markets. You may make use of means you mentioned to study and evaluate. All I can add further is while there is no harm listening to abundance of voices, avoid borrowing conviction. In long run, what helps most is following own strategy with discipline and patience. Give it a try, out of four calls one may not go your way. You should be able to make long term portfolio as you desire.

I do exit on listing day itself and do invest the profit in Mutual fund.

But now IPO allotment becomes very difficult as subscription numbers are increasing day by day, So decided to invest in secondary market on Monthly basis.

Based on my search, I have found the following parameters to pick quality stocks for the long term.

1. Promoter Holding should be more than 50%.
2. ROE should be greater than 20.
3. ROCE should be between 22-25.
4. PE should be less than 30.
5.Debt to Equity Ratio should be less than 1.

According to you, is this the right strategy or not? If it's correct, let me know any 1-2 other important parameters to check.

​@SilentIPOApplicant As mentioned earlier, there is no fixed formula that applies uniformly across the board, so to say. It is not right forum to have detailed discussion on same, however just to share with you :
1. How about companies like L&T, HDFC, ITC etc with no promoter holding ? 🤔
2. ROE above 20% surely is good but how about consistency of same over the years. And how about new companies that have great growth prospects!
3. This ROCE value of 20% or more is a strong indicator of the efficiency with which company utilises its capital to generate profits. ✅
4. PE across sectors varies and 30 or any other figure can not be benchmark. PE of Dmart is about 125 and that of RIL is just about 26. More appropriate way would be to compare PE within same peer group.
5. Debt to Equity lesser than 1 is desirable but some sectors like NBFCs, Bank etc may not be assessed on this. This fig for IDFC bank is about 7.4 and that for Zomato is 0

Suggest make a watchlist of top 2 leaders from each of sectors of your interest and compare the parameters you mentioned. Keep exploring. All the Best 🍀

Forgot to Mentioned ROE & ROCE of last 3 Years Greater than 20.

Could you please share which sector you think will have a great future in the coming years, Accoridng to you?

Also, on which platform can we discuss stock fundamentals and gain knowledge? It seems that here, people only discuss IPO subscription, GMP, and QIB. Because no one wants to put their hard-earned money without proper knowledge.

In mutual funds, it's very simple, just check the CAGR of the last 3-5 years and you can do SIP or lump sum for a particular mutual fund. However, to do investment in stocks, it's a totally different game. You have to check so many parameters. Currently, I am very curious to learn how to pick fundamentally strong stocks. Help from you and other seniors will help me and other members to gain knowledge
