Unfortunately the language in DHRP also is not of much help. It is similar to the one I posted last.
I therefore asked my broker who has confirmed it from the lead Manager that in each category if the application is less than 2 Lac, it is permitted.
My understanding is therefore confirmed.
However if people are still in doubt, they can choose to apply 156 in shareholder category and 13 in Retail public category.
After all, one lot of 13 shares less in SH category will not disturb your allotment but will definitely give you peace of mind

Retail 3,27,396 application forms. It is 54% but number of shares wise (74 lakh ) 96%. So retailers put money more than 14300 in each form. It is wasteful. More than Rs.14300 is unnecessary blocking fund.

Ok. since a new post is getting through, let me advise person at 432 that HDFC bank shareholders are not entitled to shareholder quota, only HDFC shareholders are.
I have personally seen the DHRP relevant portions.
Further, to another reply, let me add that a person can apply upto 2 Lacs rupees each in both public and shareholders quota.
Again went through DHRP in detail ( and I am a lawyer so can examine the fineprint).

Dear Adeshji, Thanks for the details, I have one query I have HDFC share in my one demat account where Myself and my father are joint holder (1st me and 2nd my father) same order in HDFC share (1st me and 2nd my father) in that case me and my father both can apply in shareholder category via difference application or only 1st holder can apply and 2nd holder can apply in retail category or not.

You only can apply in Shareholder category and as well as retail category. Because you are the first applicant in demat account. Your father cannot apply in any category. One Demat account one application Principle is followed.

You can apply upto 2Lakh HDFC EQuity holders section ONLY IF you had shares holding on 14th MARCH 2018. Not otherwise. It does not matter how many shares or for how long you should be share holder on 14th MARCH 2018

Here is an extract of the text from the letter recd by me in my mail.
'Please also note that Bids by Eligible HDFC Shareholders in the HDFC Shareholders Reservation Portion as well as in the Retail Portion shall not be treated as multiple Bids. However, Bids by a person in the HDFC Shareholders Reservation Portion as well as in the Non-Institutional Portion (generally referred as HNI portion) shall be treated as multiple Bids and therefore liable to be rejected,.
Hence if you apply in the HNI portion for above 2 lac, then you can not apply under shareholder category.
But if in retail category you have applied, you can apply in SH category upto 2 Lac.
