No other person if lucky may got 2 lot and you got 0 lot.
If you are lucky you may got 2 or 3 even 4 , 5 other 3 person if unlucky got 0 lot

NO. if you are lucky you will get one lot, otherwise zero if unlucky, irrespective of whether you applied for 1, 6 or 14 lots. All will be treated same. No advantage in applying more than one lot if the issue is oversubscribed.

May be possible.. There are chances you may get more than one allotment..

do not agree completely with sugreev, just over subscription doesn''t ensure only 1 lot allotment.

Investment of above 2 lacs will invert you in HNI category, allotment process for this category is on pro rata basis,so you will definitely get few shares

Pujan is correct. We apply in retail because our amount gets blocked but remains in the account. So we still get interest for the number of days the amount is blocked. Whereas in case of HNI category, we lose the interest on the amount we invest and thus it becomes the opportunity cost for the number of shares we are allotted on pro rate basis. For e.g. we applied for 1000 shares at rs 500. Interest lost for e.g. 1400. Shares allotted on pro data 50. So opportunity cost = 1400/50 I.e. 28 per share.

I''ll like to confirm that both the info''s are incorrect here.
I always apply in HNI and two things

1) I apply under ASBA and don''t loose any interest on my amount blocked.
2) u don''t get the allotment always, just the chances go up as the amount blocked goes up. To verify this, please check the basis of allotment of shares like Capacite, Cochin and others.

@KG probably you are referring to the fact that HNI''s usually leverage and apply to IPO, so hence the amount leveraged is where the opp cost loss is

Here is my analysis based on the previous IPOS

One lot - 8 shares 1766 is the high price band
If One lot applied in the Retail category i.e 8 shares at 1766 the percentage of getting allocated one lot was 121:1040 =11.63%
If applied under non institutnal category (more than 2000000) min number of shares applied is 120 @1766 then the chances of getting allocation is       8:196 =4.08%
If applied under non institutnal category (more than 2000000) min number of shares applied is 128 @1766 then the chances of getting allocation is       1:24 =4.166%
If applied under non institutnal category (more than 2000000) min number of shares applied is 152 @1766 then the chances of getting allocation is       1:13 =7.7%

If One lot applied in the Retail category 30 shares at 432 the percentage of getting allocated one lot was 86:423      =20.33%
If applied under non institutnal category (more than 2000000) min number of shares applied is 480 @432 then the chances of getting allocation is       8:145 =5.51 %
If applied under non institutnal category (more than 2000000) min number of shares applied is 1,260 @432 then the chances of getting allocation is       1:8 =12.5 %

If One lot applied in the Retail category 100 shares at 149 the percentage of getting allocated one lot was 3:43 =       6.97%
If applied under non institutnal category (more than 2000000) min number of shares applied is 1,400 @149 then the chances of getting allocation is       11:449      =2.44%
If applied under non institutnal category (more than 2000000) min number of shares applied is 10.000 @149 then the chances of getting allocation is 16:93      =17.2 %

the conclusion is better to apply in retail and wait for your luck to strike

It’s the ratio given in the basis of allotment detail for each IPO.
That the probability of getting allotment will be 121 out of 1040 applications.

As Mr Rambhupal has rightly explained the base, I will take it a little forward.
As an HNI , u can apply for anything above Rs 200,000.
Now if you apply for say Rs 201,000, the chances are, say ,5% but if u apply for 20L, the chances might go up to 50%( 1 out of two applicants getting allotment). When applying for say Rs 40L, then u might get firm allotment of at least one lot or more also. So, if u block say, Rs 40L or more in your account, you get at least 1 lot. That''s the way I''m ensuring that I get one lot on a minimum side for all shares which i apply.
