If you hold all allotted shares all good ipos for 1,2 or 5 years you can''t earn any profit.

Retail investors should not get caught in the initial volatility due to price discovery. Price movement can be in any direction post listing.

Price discovery happens gradually and opportunity loss (for good company) caused by selling on listing day can be very significant.

Holding for short term or long term depends on the investment objectives of specific investor but I believe one should at least wait for the price discovery and then take a call on the stock,

Very busy schedule today so couldn''t see Godrej listing and still holding my alloted lot and will keep it for long term or some partial profit @higher side. Listing expectations fulfilled exactly in my expected range of 620-635.

Generally, it is a bad strategy for retail investors to sell IPO allotted shares, on the day of listing unless their only objective is to encash the lottery won in an oversubscribed IPO.

This is not even investing, this is lottery or pure gambling.

In this overheated market the most important aspect of the investing should be capital preservation, hence it is advisable to invest only in IPO with good business model, revenue and profit growth potential and sit tight during price discovery post IPO listing.

Contrary to our beliefs, retailers investors in Indian stock market do not have any role in price discovery post IPO listing irrespective of % of company shares with retail investors.

This is not True, Many of Retail investor want to hold the script for long term, even its good if they are going to increase the % allotment to the retails, HNI can buy from open market.. why they need to allot in IPO.
