No, it is not mandatory for a minor to apply for PAN Card for opening a bank account.

Procedure to open a Bank account in India for Minor:

  • A regular Account opening form will be required to be filled by the parent or guardian with the Minor being the first holder and the Parent/Guardian as a Joint Holder.
  • PAN details of the Parent/Guardian will be filled in the section provided for it or fill up Form 60
  • The signature will be of the Parent/Guardian for account operations.
  • The Parent/Guardians photograph is required, while depending upon the Bank; the Minor’s photograph may or may not be required.

If PAN card is not mandatory to open a bank account for a minor, why does a bank demand PAN card for opening account for minor ?
